On Monday 26th August 2013, Entrepreneurial minds gathered at the Kenya Library Services Hall, Muranga Town for a whole days training on:

The concept of devolution, Public procurement opportunities in devolved government, Eligibility to do business with the government, Business Funding, Online Marketing and Self awareness.

The trainers were all set and the trainees arrived early, thirsty for information.

Mr. H. Moti from the Public Procurement Oversight Authority kick-started the training with the Preference and Reservations Scheme. The highlight of his presentation was when he showed that so far only one person from Murang'a town has been cleared for the Youth Access to Government  Procurement (YAGPO). According to the list, youths from Nairobi have the highest number of YAGPO certifications while other counties are lagging far behind. This may be attributed to the fact that the YAGPO offices have been in Nairobi and only recently did they go to county offices. Youths can now access the application forms from their county treasury.

Juliet Mwaniki of SNEP spoke about the revolving fund which provides loans to those with special needs at no interest. Due to the rampant unemployment, the youths have also been categorised as people with a special need, looking at if financially. As such, they too can access SNEP SACCO loans at no interest.

The CEO of Abecan Communicatons Ltd who traced her up bringing from Murang'a lit up the eyes of the trainees with 8 steps to Self Awareness. Beth lively brought out the points with the trainees keenly following. "In the end, only you can stop yourself from being who you were meant to be." Concluded Beth.

Opinion Kenya began the Online Marketing session by providing shocking statistics of how Kenya is a giant online but doing little with this might. Ranked second in Africa and with only South Africa ahead of us, one wonders why we are not doing as well in online marketing. He categorised the Kenyan online marketing problems in four groups; namely: Presentation, Communication, What we sell and The Last Mile- The point where money changes hands. He advised the youths on several do's and dont's when going to sell online.

The last mile is a major problem in online marketing and so Opinion Kenya has introduced E-Scrow services for those trading at Opinion Kenya's Prestige Kiosks. This ensures smooth transactions and confidence while shopping online. Opinion Kenya is dedicated to providing both the buyer and seller a protected environment while doing business. With E-scrow services, chances of being conned while buying or selling at Opinion Kenya Prestige Kiosks are zero.

The youth fund team was also present. One of the Murang'a County area representatives was present to bring to the trainees  attention that Youth Fund still has money to give and they should not shy away from applying. She pointed out that youths must have met all the qualifications to access the different loan packages.

Murang'a is now more informed. Opinion Kenya online mentoring platform is busy assisting youths from this and other past trainings to make their dreams come true. The reason our trainings stand out is because we walk with the trainees all the way to success. Followup lacks in a majority of trainings leading to a very small number practicing what they are taught. However, Opinion Kenya Mentoring is here and any youth who needs support can get it a the click of a button and at no cost.
