Bloggers a cut above the rest - can you write?

Who is a blogger?

There is a big difference between a blogger and someone who writes a long post on Facebook. Blogs are avenues for intellectual people to exhaustively express a point without ambiguity. Blogs, unlike the social media micro-blogs, are well thought out, carefully planned articles which expound on a particular topic.

Blogs have no room for grammatical errors unless it is by design to put across a point. It is okay to write your blog in any language as long as you convey the message. The biggest challenge with blogs is choice of topic. Every blogger has his preferred topic(s). Choosing a topic which one is not familiar with is detrimental to ones writing. There are too many blogs which were not well researched for and as a result, they only worked to devalue the writer off their credibility.

What to blog about.

Whether one is blogging for entertainment, inspiration or education, a blog ought to be rich with genuine content. If you decide to tell us of your mornings or evenings or days at work, be realistic if not completely honest. Lies, rumors, hearsay and gossip do not increase the value of a blog; if anything they only work to devalue the blogger.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - locate yourself.

With the advent of technology, blog research, writing and sharing has become a downhill task. As such, we have seen the emergence of many bloggers. We have witnessed the good, the bad and the ugly. The good ones have helped us know one or two things about our cars, computers, homes, etc. The bad ones have bored us and wasted our bundles-we never read these ones to the end. The ugly ones have shocked us! We have read to the end and even shared in disbelief. Writing ugly blogs which defame others and which seem hell bent to break every moral statute only makes one famous for all the wrong reasons.

A good blogger...

1. To become a good blogger, write often, research widely and most important-know your topic and your audience.

2. Ensure your blogs are within reach. Some bloggers have poorly designed websites which cannot load of mobile devices.

3. Avoid heavy pictures as they take a long time to load thus discouraging readers. (unless it is a photo blog of which the photos should be resized to best fit)

4. A good blog has a few short paragraphs.

5. Choose your fonts and colors wisely. 12 points Verdana is always my style and BLACK is always my text color. I use Comic Sans Ms for funny blogs.

6. Use sub headings to make it easier for readers to jump to sections they find interesting. Most people will skim through the blog to find out if it is a worth reading or not.

7. A good blog shows the number of people who have read it and provides room for comments.

Monetizing a blog...

This will my next blog. Look out for it. Meanwhile try this out: BLOG and WIN Competition
